The eight ages

I. The First Body — the first world was a body; mountains are what its sleep looks like. The First Threshold is its surfaced fragment. II. The Inner Sea — a sea lay where stone is now; the grottes labyrinth is one colossal fossil ammonite. III. Stone gardeners — the mountain is alive and heals its wounds; the gremlins learned to live inside a body politely. IV. The Verb Calendar — a desert civilisation WORSHIPPED the god below and measured its returns like a calendar; it was right, and swallowed anyway. V. Thresholds — the kingdom imitated the First Threshold and hung a network of gates on the continent. VI. The Kingdom of Channels — the dead were floated to their graves; a whole culture organized around the mourning-water. VII. The Grand Judgment — at the last king's funeral the Great Accord was interrupted; the world's clock broke. The staged truth: popular — the king's death caused the collapse; middle — the ritual pre-existed the death, the death was PART of it; final — the interruption spared the world a permanent compression of every stratum, at the price of the Remnants. VIII. The Time of Entreprises — now. The strata surface, the factions contest the rebuilding, the Recalled walk.

The interruption (canon, revealed Act VI–VII): the royal Tuner — Veyra, the Accordor — saw at the last chime what the Accord as prepared would truly do, and broke her own carillon. She scattered the evidence across the zones herself; Aldric, the witness, signed the official story to prevent civil war — his guilt. The Threshold has Recalled her ever since: she does not age, and she keeps the door she saved by breaking it. The king remains the fallen King — his name scraped from every register (the Conservateurs du Sceau's first act); recovering it is Act VI's beat, written on the Pleureur Muet's last slate.
